Building a stronger, more balanced body

Lara Heimann, Physical Therapist, creator of LYT Yoga Method, yoga teacher, studio owner, entrepreneur

WHAT did you do ?

With an advanced degree in physical therapy and more than 25 years of yoga practice and education, I have worked to redefine the modern practice of yoga through a method I have been creating for many years. Pulling from all corners of my background, the method speaks to our sedentary lifestyles, emphasizing smart alignment, functional movement, and spiritual wellness. LYT is the first (and only!) yoga method that is rooted in physical therapy and calls upon anatomy and movement concepts to optimize our bodies and the ways in which it is built to serve us. LYT now lives online for students practicing in over 50 countries through an online platform, in addition to my own studio in Princeton, New Jersey—the LYT flagship studio.

HOW did you do it?

I have always loved movement. I danced and taught fitness classes through college and it wasn’t until I dove into my physical therapy studies and my yoga practice that I began to bridge the two and understand how to integrate their foundations together. I started to teach at my small home studio with a few dedicated students that eventually grew to a larger following that bolstered my opening up a larger public studio space. I began to travel and teach my yoga method at international retreats, workshops, and trainings and now travel all over the world sharing the LYT Method to everybody.

WHEN  did you start your company?

While I have had my brick and mortar studio for almost 8 years, I didn’t really start to brand or package LYT Yoga until I started my online company in 2018. Now, more than 5,000 students are practicing LYT all over the world, and we have filmed over 300 LYT classes that have been streamed over 9,000 times each! Most recently, I have also added an online 10-week yoga teacher training so that other yoga teachers can also teach the LYT Method in their studios all over the world.

WHY  are you innovating with this product or service?

LYT Yoga is based on the three principles of Physiology, Kinesiology, and Neurology. With a core understanding of movement from a cellular level, while highlighting the mechanics of how a movement happens, LYT is an intense movement experience that systematically overrides the patterns of compensation and poor habits through an exploration of brain mapping and purposeful movement. While my background is in physical therapy, I often see people while they are injured, and we are working on exercises to rehab their bodies to a stronger place. LYT Yoga focuses on pre-hab, or injury prevention, as injuries come from imbalances in the way we habitually move our bodies. While working on movement patterns through physical therapy and yoga exercises regularly, we are building a stronger, more balanced body with balanced movement patterns that will be free of injury in the long run!
