Art, pop culture, and everything drag

Spending the day at RuPaul's DragCon in New York City.

RuPaul’s DragCon is a three-day event dedicated to all things drag.  The convention, held in New York City and Los Angeles, is currently in its fourth year and is the only place to meet and talk with your favorite drag queens and stars.

DragCon is spearheaded by RuPaul and World of Wonder® Productions, RuPaul’s DragCon provides a platform for fans – of all ages and backgrounds – to meet and interact with world-renowned celebrities and icons in a creative, friendly, and accessible environment. The third annual convention welcomed top talents for performances, meet and greets, panels, and more.

RuPauls’ DragCon is a weekend full of sashaying, panels, and performances.  The event, which took place at the Javits Center in New York City, was attended by drag queens and fans from all around the world gathered to celebrate the art of drag.

The term "drag queen" comes from "drag," which has existed in the theater for centuries referring to men dressing in women's clothing, and "queen," an anti-slang word for a gay man having feminine traits. While drag queens today are associated with gays, not all men who perform drag are gay; often, these are entertainers who describe their act as ‘female impersonators’.

We met a lot of amazing people at the show. Every queen had their own unique style and the booths had their own designs. Everything was a must see, and we will definitely attend again next year!
