Alpaca Fiesta 2024, the most important world event in the alpaca ecosystem, holds its eighth edition in October
Alpaca Fiesta 2024, the eighth edition of the most important world event related to Alpaca, will take place from October 21 to 26 in the shiny city of Arequipa, located in the southern part of Perú and is expected to be visited by more than 5,000 attendees including breeders, designers, textile producers, artisans and experts from the national and international alpaca industry. In addition to the presence of more than 15 countries, through representatives interested in this platform for the promotion and marketing of alpaca fiber and its derived products.
The event is organized by the International Alpaca Association-AIA, a private non-profit organization, founded in 1984 in the city of Arequipa, and by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ), an entity attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru (MINCETUR). Alpaca Fiesta is held every three years and, in this edition, it aims to integrate all the links of the alpaca production chain, to highlight the ancestral heritage, and the millenary legacy of our alpaca.
In addition, for the first time, Peru Moda Deco will be held in person in its 27th edition that is decentralized and Arequipa opens the doors in a historic edition of this important event of fashion, design, crafts and decoration using local raw materials, such as alpaca fiber and cotton.
This international event, the most relevant in the alpaca ecosystem, coincides with the commemoration of the International Year of Camelids, declared by the United Nations, thus highlighting the valuable role that those South American camelids have in the economy, culture and daily life of the high Andean peoples.
"This new edition of Alpaca Fiesta, the first post-pandemic face-to-face event, carries a special commitment to the sustainability of the alpaca production chain in a significant year due to the UN declaration, so we are focused on the exchange and collaboration between all the actors in the chain to promote responsible practices of breeding and animal welfare as well as the preservation of the environment, respecting the Andean worldview and preserving our millenary traditions," says Jessica Rodríguez, President of Alpaca Fiesta 2024.
Alpaca Fiesta will include activities from the entire alpaca value chain divided into 5 components: livestock, commercial, fashion, academic and cultural and during the six days of the event will take place: visits to factories, alpaca breeders, commercial exhibition, business roundtables, fashion shows of emerging brands and national and international established brands, contest of young fashion creators, international academic forum, national contest of alpacas and llamas, exhibition of South American camelids, regional gastronomic exhibition, folkloric dances and musical exhibitions.
Alpaca Fiesta 2024 is consolidated as the key event for the alpaca production chain and a unique opportunity to celebrate the cultural, gastronomic and natural wealth of Peru.
