WHO ARE YOU?
Hi! My name is Marina McCoy and I am the Founder/CEO of Waste Free Earth
WHAT did you do ?
I build zero-waste sustainable strategies for businesses and events all throughout the country.
HOW did you do it?
For each event or business, I go in and identify their key waste contributors, see where they can reduce overall waste consumption, offer up reusable solutions, or fully recyclable or compostable alternatives. We go into every department to eliminate the waste from the source so that there is less waste to management and money saved on waste disposal costs and supplies. Working with all stakeholders of the event or business including, vendors, bars, bands, artists, customers, sponsors, partners, and the producers. We also lead sustainability seminars and workshops while at the event and have a sustainability booth onsite for further attendee activation and education.
WHEN did you start your company?
I have been doing this work for over half a decade but I founded my company in March 2017 once I started to see a substantial increase in requests for proposals.
WHY are you innovating with this product or service?
Most events and businesses think diverting their waste away from the landfill is enough, and I am here to tell you it isn't. Recycling and composting still have an impact on the environment. The ultimate goal is to reduce overall waste consumption including recyclable and compostable waste. By creating strategies that support waste reduction and make everyone's job a little easier, it's a no brainer to incorporate the programs.
WHERE are you from?
I am from Rutland, Vermont and lived out in Lake Tahoe where I attended college and remained to live out there for six years. Lake Tahoe is also where I started my company Waste Free Earth. Currently, I live in Burlington, Vermont which is only an hour and half from where I grew up and where my family still resigns. After years of traveling for work and being on the road, I am happy to say that Burlington, Vermont (or close by) is my home for good.
