SS 2017 Seoul Fashion Week is renewing the image of the most innovative fashion trend in the world.
K-Style is fluid, sparkling, colourful and easy to wear. But moreover, this year is giving the idea of a fast growing movement. The styles inspired by the most celebrated Asian comics yield the room to more sophisticated styles where elegance and colours are amalgamated to match a new identity.
It is an amazing experience, especially when taken in comparison with other Asia Fashion Weeks, where the pressure to "be unique" sometimes does not yield a well balanced image. Korean designs are more careful with the volumes, the cutting, and are not indulging in "weird combinations just to be weird".
Among the hundreds of brands, we have selected some to show what we mean when we refer to sophisticated K-Style.
CHARM'S
Yohan Kang, creative director of the South Korean streetwear label is popularly regarded as Seoul's answer to Moschino's Jeremy Scott.
Transgressive and colorful, Charm's collection is a magic box.
ARCHE
"Every season ARCHE seeks beauty in the dimension of phobia. For SS17, the main theme was HELIOPHOBIA, the fear of the sun, sunlight, and bright light.
ARCHE went in deep with what a heliophobiac would do throughout the day to create the foundation of this series."
BEYOND CLOSET
Designer Ko Tae Yong is imagining a deep mix between American and Korean culture to appoint a new image and concept for young people to wear. The resulting combination is a perfectly elegant image where young men can build a new personality between the two sides of the ocean.
SEWING BOUNDARIES
The already successful designer Dong Ha has been one of the first to believe in the "unisex collection".
The SS17 theme was “In the garden after the rain” and "featured low-key pieces for everyday wear that one can pair with more edgy styles".
CRES. E DIM.
CRES. E DIM. is a Korean designer brand by Hongbum Kim, that was established in 2009. The brand name CRES. E DIM. came from the musical term ‘crescendo e diminuendo’. ‘CRES’ means ‘getting gradually louder’ and ‘DIM’ reflectively means ‘getting gradually softer’. Kim applied this theory into his fashion identity and philosophy.
