Barbie® recognizes all female role models. The Inspiring Women™ Series pays tribute to incredible heroines of their time; courageous women who took risks, changed rules and paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever before.
In 2018, Barbie debuted the Inspiring Women Series, The series launched last International Women’s Day to pay tribute to Amelia Earhart, Katherine Johnson and Frida Kahlo with dolls created in their likeness. This year, Barbie continues its commitment to showing girls more role models by introducing two new dolls that honor Rosa Parks and Sally Ride. These historical women broke boundaries that made the world a better place for future generations of girls.
Rosa Parks: American activist hailed as “the Mother of the Modern Civil Rights Movement”. Parks led an ordinary life as a seamstress until an extraordinary moment on December 1, 1955 when she refused an order to give up her seat to a white passenger and move to the back of the bus. Mrs. Parks’ act of defiance became the catalyst for the Montgomery Bus Boycott and her quiet strength played a notable role in the civil rights movement. Rosa Parks earned worldwide recognition and numerous awards including the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal of Honor.
Sally Ride: The first American woman – and youngest American – to fly in space.
On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride blasted off aboard space shuttle Challenger to become the first American woman – and the youngest American – to fly in space. Sally’s adventurous nature, quest for discovery, and pioneering accomplishments inspire girls everywhere to boldly reach for the stars.
The Rosa Parks and Sally Ride Inspiring Women doll feature authentic clothing and unique accessories, plus education information about her contributions to society, so girls can be inspired by her stories through play.
