WHAT:
Bex Band (www.theordinaryadventurer.com) I am an adventurer who’s expeditions have included hiking 1000km across Israel, kick-scooting the length of the USA and crossing the Jordan desert. I believe that everyone should be able to access adventure as it builds confidence and connects people to the natural world. Seeing a lack of women in the outdoors, I launched Love Her Wild, a women’s adventure community, to provide support and opportunities for women in adventure. Now with over 6,000 members, Love Her Wild has taken hundreds of women on life-changing expeditions around the world. As well as having an online forum, the community runs a mentoring program and funding schemes to break down financial and social barriers holding women back from getting outdoors. I have been recognized by Business Leader as UK’s top 30 inspirational entrepreneurs and was awarded the Next Generation Award by Enterprise Nation. For my work advocating women in the adventure she has been shortlisted for a National Diversity Award and in 2018 was given ‘Legacy Maker’ status on the San Miguel Alternative Rich List.
HOW:
I launched Love Her Wild with a simple website and a Facebook group. The buzz and the excitement around the Facebook group meant it was shared hundreds of times and in the space of just a few months grew to thousands of members.
WHEN:
Love Her Wild was launched in February 2017.
WHY :
Me and Love Her Wild is a great example of how you can launch a social enterprise using just the power of social media. Having never spent a penny on advertising and having never run a business before, I was able to grow brand awareness and loyal followers simply by providing valuable content and grabbing attention with exciting activities happening offline.
WHERE:
Although Love Her Wild is UK based, their expeditions take place all over the world.
