From Guadalajara to the World

Mexican Designers Celebrate National Identity Through Brooches

“Mexico in Your Heart” is a jewelry initiative that brings together 32 brooches created by 32 firms and 36 designers, each inspired by one of Mexico’s states. Presented by the Jalisco Jewelry Chamber, the project translates the country’s cultural richness, its landscapes, traditions, materials, and colors into contemporary jewelry design.

In Jalisco, home to Mexico’s most robust jewelry ecosystem, this diversity converges in a collection that highlights the creative vision of designers from across the nation. Each participating firm was randomly assigned a state, prompting designers to research its history, symbolism, and cultural identity, and reinterpret those elements through their own artistic lens.

Lourdes Cázares Ruiz, President of the Jalisco Jewelry Chamber, emphasized the initiative’s purpose: “It is a project to bring Mexico to audiences through an exhibition that speaks about its 32 states, its history, and its culture.”

The collection features proposals from A veces hueso, Adeliza Garzia, Alhaja 479, Azul Cobalto, Caro Castelán, Casa Joyera del Sur, Citlali Joyas, Dicentra, Doze, Edith Brabata, Elena López, Felipe Cárdenas, Flora María, Gabriela Sanchez, Isela Robles, Karen Marrun, Leticia Llera, Loca García, Mackech, María Paula Amezcua, María Vera, Mariana Barranco, Metamorfeame 925, Mnemosimo, Okoxal, Oscar Figueroa, Pedro Pérez Filoteo, Rocío Medeles, Samuel Burstein, Sylvia Burgoa, Teorema and UL - Unique Luxury, showcasing a wide range of techniques, materials, and creative languages.

A Brooch to Carry Mexico Close to the Heart

Silver serves as the collection’s central material, complemented by crystals, gemstones, natural elements, ceramics, alternative materials, and diverse goldsmithing techniques. All pieces were designed as brooches, an intentional choice that aligns with the initiative’s name, as brooches are traditionally worn close to the heart.

Carmen Lucía Sandoval, head of the Fashion and Design Commission of the Jalisco Jewelry Chamber, highlighted the creative approach behind the project: “Through creativity, we seek to transform the identity and traditions of our country into unique pieces.”

Beyond jewelry, “Mexico in Your Heart” builds a narrative about Mexico’s diversity, positioning the country as a source of inspiration, creativity, and talent.

Jalisco: Mexico’s Jewelry Capital

The initiative also underscores Jalisco’s leadership in the national jewelry industry. The state produces over 70% of Mexico’s jewelry, and Guadalajara has been recognized as the Jewelry Capital of the Americas since 2013.

The city hosts 14 jewelry centers, five specialized workshop buildings, and more than 1,500 points of sale that welcome over two million buyers annually. Within this ecosystem, the Jalisco Jewelry Chamber organizes Expo JOYA, held four times a year twice in Guadalajara and twice in Mexico City and considered the most important jewelry exhibition in Latin America.

Cázares noted: “We are very proud that around 70 percent of the country’s jewelry is produced in Jalisco.”

An International Route Ahead

After its presentation in Guadalajara, the collection will begin an itinerant route with its first international showcase at the Mexican Consulate in Barcelona, Spain. The project has received strong support from the city since its inception, reflecting the global recognition of Mexican jewelry and design.

Cázares added: “Mexican jewelry and Mexican design are recognized worldwide… Many of them already have international awards.”
