ReSea to tackle plastic pollution

Natural & Organic Products Europe partner with ReSea to tackle plastic pollution

This year, the organisers of Natural & Organic Products Europe are working with ReSea Project, an organisation directly tackling the ocean plastic crisis. As part of this partnership, ReSea Project will remove the equivalent of 100 plastic straws (100g) from oceans and rivers on behalf of every single visitor attending the trade show on 3-4 April 2022.

“80% of the world’s ocean plastics enter the ocean via rivers and coastlines.” – Our World in Data, 2021

Event Director, Carol Dunning said “as one of the the industry’s biggest trade shows, we appreciate the huge role companies play in building a more sustainable future. It is vital that events such as ours not only provide a space for eco-friendly innovation, but also look inward and adapt business practices to tackle the biggest environmental challenges of the day. That’s why we are so proud of our partnership with ReSea, a company that not only takes direct action against plastic pollution, but supports the communities hardest hit by the crisis.”

With its project site based in Indonesia – the world’s second-largest contributor to ocean plastic pollution – ReSea Project engages communities near rivers and coastal areas affected by low-income and waste mismanagement. The company’s vision is to end the ocean plastic crisis via their community driven cleanup operation where they engaging locals to recover plastic from heavily polluted rivers and oceans while providing fair compensation and increase awareness to prevent plastic pollution.

“45% of today’s leakage is from rural areas, where collection economics don’t work.” - The Pew Charitable Trusts and SYSTEMIQ, 2020

Christine Tangdal, Head of Sales and Partnerships at ReSea Project, said “the partnership is, in our opinion, aligned perfectly. NOPEX connects visitors with innovative, eco-friendly and sustainable products, which will make a real difference to businesses…we get to meet exhibitors and participants and show how brands can leverage their sustainable commitments by supporting our cleanup efforts.”

At Resea Project’s stand, visitors can learn more about plastic pollution and how to join the movement as a frontrunner in the fight against one of the most pressing environmental threats against our planet. Those who stop by can also make a further positive environmental impact through a QR code, that ensures a further 100g of plastic is removed from oceans and rivers.
